Bach´s musical environment

From the beginning, the central point of our work was to show that Johann Sebastian Bach was not some Titan whose music overshadowed everything composed before or after him. No, we wanted to show that Bach’s predecessors and contemporaries, his successors and his sons were not merely good composers, but master craftsmen, who used music as a medium to bring moving portrayals of fateful human catastrophes, deepest sorrow, and joyous wonder to our ears and minds. These were major personalities, who didn’t merely leave behind attractive background music, but had the creative power to portray human life and feelings through music, and helped us to recognize and understand how much people must suffer or may experience happiness.
