Performance Practice

“Hermann Max and his performers shine with a liveliness full of erudition and authenticity.”

What is ‘historically informed performance practice’ really? For Hermann Max, it is the synthesis between the committed attempt to research and analyse the conditions, means, methods and intentions of each composer, and the ambition to realize the insights musically with as much vision, energy, physicality and sensuality as possible. Max is of course well aware that any analysis of historic sources remains an interpretation. Yet it is precisely this interpretative work which is his focus. His own writings demonstrate his working method.
